Antonella Ferrara, Full Professor and Chair of the Group
 
Antonella Ferrara was born in Genova, Italy. As a student at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Genova, she got the "IEEE North Italy Section Electrical Engineering Student Award" in 1986. She received the Laurea Degree in Electronic Engineering in 1987 and the Ph.D. in Computer Science and Electronics in 1992 from the University of Genova. She was Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication, Computer and System Sciences of the University of Genova since 1992. In November 1998 she became Associate Professor of Automatic Control at the University of Pavia. Since January 2005 she has been Full Professor of Automatic Control, first in the Department of Computer Engineering and Systems Science of the University of Pavia (2005-2011), and then in the newborn Electrical, Computer and Biomedical Engineering (ECBE) of the University of  Pavia. Her research activities are mainly in the area of sliding mode control, with application to automotive control, traffic control, robotics, and process control. She has authored or co-authored more than 300 papers, including 97 international journal papers. From 2000 to 2004, she was Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology. From 2007 to 2012, she was Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control. Since January 2014, she has been Associate Editor of the IEEE Control Systems Magazine. She currently is and has been member of the International Program Committee of numerous international conferences and events. She is Senior Member of the IEEE Control Systems Society, member of the IEEE Technical Committee on Variable Structure and Sliding Mode Control, member of the IEEE Technical Committee of Automotive Control and member of the IFAC Technical Committee on Transportation Systems. She was appointed member of the Board of Governors of the IEEE Control Systems Society for 2012. She is elected member of the Board of Governors of the IEEE Control Systems Society for 2016-2018. Since July 2013, she has been Chair of the IEEE CSS Women in Control. Since January 2016 she has been serving as Member of the EUCA Council.
Gian Paolo Incremona, Postdoc
 
Gian Paolo Incremona was born in Comiso (Ragusa), Italy, on February 18th, 1988. He received the Laurea (with honors) degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pavia, Italy in 2010. The dissertation title was Progettazione Preliminare di un Sistema di Monitoraggio Universale per un Impianto Fotovoltaico (in english: Preliminary Design of an Universal Monitoring System of a Photovoltaic Plant) and the supervisor was Prof. Antonella Ferrara. He received the Laurea Magistrale (with honors) degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pavia, italy, in 2012. The dissertation title was Modelling and Control of Cooperative Robot Manipulators and the supervisor was Prof. Antonella Ferrara. He was a student of the highly qualified cultural institution Almo Collegio Borromeo of Pavia. He was also a student of the class of Science and Technology of the institute for advanced study IUSS of Pavia. He was a Ph.D. Student in Electronics, Electrical and Computer Engineering for the Identification and Control of Dynamic System (ICDS) Laboratory at the University of Pavia under the supervision of Prof. Antonella Ferrara. Currently he is a postdoctoral fellow at ICDS Lab.
Michele Cucuzzella, Ph. D. Student (Cycle XXX)
 

Michele Cucuzzella was born in Ragusa, Italy, on June 18th 1990. He received the Bachelor degree (with honors) in Industrial (Energetic) Engineering from the University of Pavia, Italy in 2012. His thesis was developed in partnership with MCM Energy Lab, spin-off from the Polytechnic of Milan, in the field of applied research in renewable energy. His task was the design of an innovative power generation plant using hydro source and the latest technologies to ensure maximum productivity and an optimal return on investments in order to contain the environmental degradation process and reduce greenhouse emissions. The dissertation title was "Micro Hydro Power Plants for Energy Recovery in Water Distribution Network''. He received the Master degree (with honors) in Electrical (Energetic) Engineering from the University of Pavia, Italy in 2014. His thesis was developed in the Process Control Lab at the University of Pavia in the field of control systems. His task was the design of an advanced control strategy of Sliding Mode type for Microgrids in order to integrate renewable energy sources directly into the main grid. The designed controllers also improve the service quality and continuity by supplying at least a portion of the load, even after being disconnected from the main grid. The dissertation title was "Sliding Mode Control for Microgrids''. Since September 2010 he is tutor for the course Fondamenti di Informatica (Introduction to Computer Systems) and for the course Fisica Tecnica (Engineering Thermodynamics) at the University of Pavia. Since November 2014 he is a Ph.D. Student in Electronics, Computer Science and Electrical Engineering for the Identification and Control of Dynamic Systems Lab at the University of Pavia under the supervision of Full Professor Antonella Ferrara. His research activities are mainly in the area of the Variable Structure Control Methods of Sliding Mode type and the Event-Triggered Control with application to the Microgrids.

Gianluca De Felici, Senior Lab Technician
 
Gianluca De Felici has a position as senior Laboratory Technician at the Identification and Control of Dynamic System Laboratory of the University of Pavia. After graduating in Electronics, he actively participated in research activities in industrial automation, packaging and automatic handling systems.
Alberto Nai Oleari, Ph. D. (Cycle XXVII)
 
Alberto Nai Oleari, born in 1985, has a Master of Science’s degree in Computer Science Engineering. His master’s thesis was developed in partnership with a multinational corporation operating in the field of household appliances, and is titled: “Modeling of a refrigerator focused on the development of automatic defrost algorithms”. In 2011 he specialized in Control Systems and Automation at the University of Pavia, Italy, where, actually, he was Ph.D. candidate in Automatic Control at the Identification and Control of Dynamic Systems laboratory till February 2015. In 2013 he spent a period as Visiting Student at the University of Sevilla, Spain, to master parametrized model predictive control techniques and in 2014 as Visiting Researcher at the INRIA research centre in Grenoble, France, to test the control algorithms developed so far in microsimulation. His research deals with mathematical modeling, simulation, and control applied to freeway systems, considering macro and microsimulation and control methods such as model predictive control, event-triggered control and distributed control.
